Our school's chess club participated again in the SESB - School Chess Tournament at Gymnasium Steglitz. Even though we weren't quite as successful as last year, there were still some things to celebrate. Our team finished 21st out of 28 teams, tied with places 18-20. One of our players in the main tournament finished a fantastic 22nd out of 104 players in the individual ranking, and one player finished 6th out of 23 participants in the substitute player tournament. And above all, everyone had fun and won games.
Our school's chess club participated in the chess tournament of the State European Schools in Berlin in the auditorium of the Gymnasium Steglitz. Our team, "Charles Chess Champions," consisted of four children from grades two to four and performed excellently, coming 18th out of 28 - with many high school students taking part. We also brought home two trophies for 3rd place in the primary schools and the most creative team name. The children had great fun, and we look forward to the next tournament.
"So we placed 4th in the younger division and 11th in the older division. I went in to school today and spoke to a couple of kids Armstrong and Hector. They said they had an amazing time. Both were proud of their team. Nigel said they played well and learned the value of good sportsmanship. He was especially proud of the passing and teamwork that the kids displayed." - Ray
